Last year, I carved a witch with a caldron and a spider on the other side of the pumpkin. I carved it a few weeks before Halloween and it was rotten before the actual day. I have learnt my lesson. This time I carved it the weekend before Halloween. I hosted the pumpkin carving party at my place. I wanted to carve a pumpkin and invited some friends to do so too. It was a beautiful day to hang out in the backyard. I served cinnamon and sugar flavored pita chips, cashew nuts , raisins, vichyssoise ( potate and leek soup) , tako balls ( octopus balls with bonito flakes and mayonnaise) and fruit punch.
Phyllis, Janine, Louisa, Vung and Teija came and we had a nice afternoon doing girlie stuff. Phyllis carved a haunted tree to impress her boys. She did an awesome job. Janine carved the legendary "Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow" and a happy face. She was very fast and very steady with her tools. From her masterpiece, I came to know about the short story " Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. Louisa was authentic and creative. She created her own designs. She also taught me how to prepare pumpkin seeds. Vung carved a happy face and a pirate head. The latter took a longer time but it was worth the effort. I carved a racoon popping out of a jack-o-lattern.
We completed our masterpieces, lined up our babies and took a few pictures. We are the proud mommies :)

We wanted to see how they would look in the dark. We went to the darkest place which was my kitchen. We lined them up again and took a few pictures.

I had a relaxing afternoon with my dear friends. I hope you will join me again next year :)
